OUR MOVING BODY with Maria Galanopoulou

OUR MOVING BODY

a workshop based on Dance Movement Therapy
with Maria Galanopoulou

Our bodies are constantly moving — consciously, subconsciously, or unconsciously.

As we live in our bodies, we receive signals from within: How is my breath? What is my heart rhythm? Am I feeling thirsty or hungry? What sensations are arising inside me?

We also receive signals about our bodies in space: Where are my arms right now? How do my legs move as I walk? Which parts of my body do I engage to reach that delicious cinnamon roll?

And then there is the world around us. What is happening in our environment? How does it influence the way I move, the way I walk, or my attempt to reach that cinnamon roll?

Through this workshop, we will explore three dimensions of our sensory awareness:
interoception, proprioception, and exteroception

tuning in to our inner world

sensing our bodies in space

noticing the world around us.

What happens when we begin to observe the movements of our everyday lives?

Do we tend to repeat the same movement patterns?

Which parts of our bodies do we use more often?

Which parts feel stiff, restricted, or as though they are carrying extra burden?

Through movement, curiosity, play, and observation, we will take time to explore our bodies, notice our habits, and discover new possibilities for moving and relating to ourselves and the world around us.

Let’s slow down, tune in, and get curious about our bodies — our most precious home!

This is an introductory workshop in Dance Movement Therapy, a psychotherapeutic approach grounded in the belief our body, mind, spirit are viewed as a whole, not as separate parts, but as continuously interconnected.

Dance Movement Therapy makes use of both verbal and non verbal communication, movement improvisation, rhythm, props, group dynamics and different forms of art. It draws from psychological theories, dance theory and practice, neuroscience, anthropology and other relevant fields.
