What happens when we move with others, and what becomes possible when we choose to move differently?

We are constantly part of groups in our everyday lives: our families, our circles of friends, our workplaces, our communities, and the societies we live in. From small, intimate groups to larger social structures, groups shape our experiences and influence the way we relate to ourselves and others.

But how do we position ourselves in relation to a group?

Do we move with the group, following its rhythm and feeling connected, supported, and empowered?

Do we stand against it, resisting, disagreeing, claiming space, and expressing our differences?

Or do we move somewhere in between — shifting between leading and following, belonging and differentiating, being influenced by others while maintaining a sense of self?

In this workshop, we will explore our relationship with the group through movement. We will experiment with boundaries, decisions, and initiatives: when we choose to follow, when we take the lead, when we move together, and when we choose a different direction. We will observe how these dynamics unfold, shift, and transform, and what new possibilities may emerge.

Through movement, collective rhythm, curiosity, play, and observation, we will explore how we move as individuals, in relation to a group, in opposition to it, within subgroups, or by following another person’s lead. We will investigate the patterns we tend to repeat, the roles we often adopt, and the choices we make when we find ourselves in a group setting.

No previous dance experience is needed. Wear comfortable clothes and come to take part in a nurturing and exploratory experience.

This is an introductory workshop in Dance Movement Therapy, a psychotherapeutic approach grounded in the belief our body, mind, spirit are viewed as a whole, not as separate parts, but as continuously interconnected.

Dance Movement Therapy makes use of both verbal and non verbal communication, movement improvisation, rhythm, props, group dynamics and different forms of art. It draws from psychological theories, dance theory and practice, neuroscience, anthropology and other relevant fields.
